The passage above is an example of metaphor. The passage compares the limited amount of privacy and little amounts of bread rations. The author includes this because it explains the horrific conditions the Lithuainains are forced to live.

I agree. The metaphor shows how horrific the conditions are.

The craft of this passage is a metaphor. Its a metaphor because its comparing privacy to the little amounts of bread they get each day. The purpose of the passage was to show the reader how little privacy they get compared to the 300 grams of bread they get.

I totally agree with you Olivia! Privacy and bread rations are both very limited. Love how you used the specific detail of the 300 grams of bread.

The author uses a metaphor to compare how they have no privacy whatsoever. The Lithuanians get no warning for when the soviets will kick the door down and barge in. For example, on page 208, the text states "The door of the shack blew open. The NKVD pushed inside pointing guns at us." This helps to show that the prisoners get no privacy and the soviets make it so they feel that privacy is just a memory.

I agree 100%!! Good textual evidence and I'm very glad you added that privacy is just a memory. Because that's true. They get no privacy anymore and it's only gonna be rememberd

The passage above illustrates a metaphor how the KNVD limit everything that they do including food, sleep, and especially their privacy. Which is saying that privacy was just a memory as in that they don't have it anymore. But when they say that privacy is just a a memory and it's not rationale, like food and sleep they have no privacy and they have 300 grams of bread and only so much sleep.

The craft of this passage is metaphor because it compares how little privacy to how little rations they have of food and sleep. The purpose of this passage is to show the readers how little privacy they have to how little rationed amounts of food and sleep!

the craft of this text is a metaphor the author is comparing how little privacy she has and how little of food the " prisoners" get. For example the soviets just barge in whenever they want and they only get 300 grams of bread a day.
